The devastating earthquake in Morocco recently caused destruction and ended many lives. A recent earthquake in North Africa affected Morocco causing destruction and harming people. This earthquake had a magnitude of 6.8 which caused roofs to cave in and buildings to fall over. It was estimated that around 300,000 people were affected by the earthquake. More than 2,800 were found dead after the earthquake. This was the worst earthquake to hit Morocco in the last six centuries. I interviewed the freshman Deangelo Rios about the earthquake and he said “I first heard about the earthquake when I saw it on the TV.” I was shocked to hear about the earthquake because I had never heard of a warning. A quote from CNN discusses people’s reactions to the earthquake “Halimi was vacationing in Morocco when the earthquake hit last week. She said she was in shock and felt lucky to be alive. When an appeal for volunteers popped up on TV in her hotel, she signed up. A few hours later, she was in the mountains with an NGO called El Baraka Angels, handing out donations and comforting people.” The damage was very widespread and strong, and many buildings were destroyed due to this. The recovery of Morocco is going to be expensive and long but it will be necessary. Currently, there are thousands of people left homeless. Luckily the government has been helping since the first day sending search teams and medical teams to go help. Deangelo also talked about the people saying “I hope everybody is okay and recovers fully.” I’m sure everybody also wishes that, and make sure to donate if you can to Morocco funding sites and send prayers to the families.
