Last Friday, May 8th, the Grand Junction Lacrosse team was playing in the second round of the playoffs. The Junction Lacrosse team was playing the winner of Fruita vs Dakota Ridge. The stakes were pretty high because this determined whether they moved on or just straight up lost and never played again till next year. But being ranked number two in the league, they had a lot of pressure, but pressure never got to the Junction Lacrosse team.
The Grand Junction Lacrosse team, full of Palisade students, played Dakota Ridge. It was an absolute blowout, winning their game 16-9. From the very beginning, you could tell how the game was going to go. It started off with both teams scoring and then going on a streak of good defence and good goalkeeping that kept Dakota Ridge at 9 points.
By the time the game ended, it wasn’t even close. Everyone on the sidelines already knew they had it in the bag by the fourth quarter and didn’t let anything get in the way. They kept fighting and kept scoring no matter the score.
Junior Jax Bavor also had to say it was a blowout. He said, “It was a pretty easy win, we kept scoring over and over”. The scores are what made them win, but really playing as a team against an easy team. They keep going deeper into the playoffs and prove why they are ranked so high.
After taking another win on Tuesday, the 12th, for the third round of playoffs against Telluride, they are looking to play the championship this Saturday, May 16th, in Denver against Evergreen.
