Palisade High School has school spirit days that the student body arranges, suiting the students or raising awareness to something that needs to be more talked about. PHS recently hosted a week-long series of spirit days and assemblies for Prom week to raise awareness to a variety of things such as Bulldogs that left the pack too soon on Monday, Substance Abuse on Tuesday, Addiction Recovery on Wednesday, and Drunk Driving awareness on Thursday. On Tuesday, students attended an assembly where a heartbroken mom came and spoke about the pain of losing her daughter to Drunk Drivers, which took the idea of Drunk Drivers to a mock crash assembly on Thursday. On Thursday students attended yet another impactful assembly that demonstrated all parts of a crash and the impact it has on not just them but the community.
Freshman, Abbie Landon, a standout participant who stood in pride wearing spirit day clothes almost every day this week, shared her perspective. “I mean, I feel like it’s kind of a good thing to teach us about,” Landon stated. Out of all of the Spirit Days meaning something that is very impactful, Landon further explained how Tuesday (Substance Abuse) was her favorite day out of all of them because she feels as if it is something that a lot of people can feel seen on, yet silently suffer and still need so much help with. Landon comments,“It kind of shows them that it is bad and tells them that they shouldn’t be doing it”. While addiction and recovery is hard for everyone, Landon wanted to remind the pack here at PHS that it is never too late to ask for help. Bulldogs, it’s never too late to be safe and participate in Spirit Days, go dawgs!
