This past Saturday, April 4th, the Grand Junction girls lacrosse team turned in an outstanding performance against Montrose High School, earning a commanding 14–1 victory. From the opening draw, the Tigers controlled the pace of the game, demonstrating confidence, strong communication, and effective teamwork on both ends of the field. Leading the offensive charge was Scarlett Roberts, who finished as the top scorer with four goals. Close behind was Alexis Campbell, who contributed three goals of her own, helping to maintain steady pressure against Montrose’s defense throughout the game. The Tigers’ offense was well-balanced overall, with multiple players stepping up and contributing to the scoreboard, reflecting the team’s depth and unselfish playstyle. Defensively, Grand Junction also had a strong showing, limiting Montrose to just one goal. Solid positioning, quick transitions, and consistent communication allowed the Tigers to shut down scoring opportunities and quickly regain possession. This complete team effort played a major role in the lopsided final score. The victory was especially meaningful for Grand Junction following their previous matchup against Telluride on March 31st. In that game, the Tigers came up short in a tough 19–11 loss, facing an eight-point deficit by the final whistle. However, rather than letting the loss discourage them, the team used it as motivation to improve and refocus, which was clearly evident in Saturday’s performance. Senior Natalia Arnold spoke about the team’s mindset after the game, saying, “This game was a great experience with lots of joy—everyone was smiling and happy to play.” Her words reflect the positive energy that was present throughout the game. She also highlighted the team’s strong on-field chemistry, adding that “everyone was playing very well and communicating effectively on plays.”. Arnold’s comments emphasize not only the team’s skill but also their unity and love for the game. The Tigers’ ability to work together, support one another, and maintain a positive attitude proved to be a key factor in their success. Overall, the game marked an important moment for the Grand Junction girls lacrosse team, showcasing their growth, resilience, and potential as the season continues. With this momentum, the Tigers look poised to carry their confidence forward into upcoming matchups.
