Palisade is known to be a small town focusing primarily on agriculture, being known for having stunning Palisade peaches. As farmers in Palisade take high pride in their peaches, they spend a lot of time on the field farming and use a lot of gas to get around their fields efficiently. As of last week, the 24th of March, gas prices in Grand Junction had an average of 3.98$, according to gasprices.aaa.com. Students around Palisade have had an uprising in conversation of rising gas prices where students are going broke trying to afford their gas.
Junior Chloe Cummings was interviewed about rising gas prices. She stated, “I think that the rising prices are somewhat necessary for the situation but this situation could of easily been avoided.” Cummings takes the rising gas prices into consideration as she drives a Grey 2000 Toyota Tundra, where she has to spend almost $40.00 on gas to fill up her vehicle.
Not only does this issue affect Cummings. Students have been seen staying at school instead of going off campus to save money, working longer hours at their jobs, and carpooling all to be able to afford gas. Athletes are also known for spending hours a week in their vehicles having to drive to games, practices, and tournaments all around and outside of town. This doesn’t just affect students, this affects companies, retail and travel. For instance, trucking companies are losing a ton of money to supply their drivers, as they travel place to place to supply the people. Bulldogs, as this week is Live above week never forget to stay safe on the roads.
