The conflict between the United States and Iran is one of the most complex and long-standing conflicts in modern international relations. The conflict has been here with Iran for so many years that it is hard to keep track. The earliest recorded anger toward Iran dates to 1953, when Iran nationalized the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company (now BP). This event angered the United Kingdom, especially since oil wasn’t found until the 1900’s, so this made the United Kingdom lose a lot of money, which could’ve been bad at the time because the UK controlled the majority of the stakes when it came to oil. Luckily enough for the United Kingdom, they were a partner with the U.S., and they went through and inserted Pahlavi back into the Shah (Leader of Iran). This worked well in Iran when, in 1957, they brought a moment of peace when they made the Atoms with Peace agreement, where the U.S and other countries signed an agreement to make nuclear bombs in Iran, and this was a good idea at the time to bring a good relationship with Iran and the world. But while relationships with the U.S and Iran were good the relationships with Iran and its people was not because in 1979 Iran got tired of a dictator and had a revolution and forced the shah to leave after they exiled the former shah they opted Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini back into leadership for the Islamic Republic and that’s when the U.S cut ties with Iran and let them do their own thing. Or we thought we had countless wars and conflicts with Iran that have pushed our relationship with Iran further down. With some efforts by Barack Obama in 2013 – 2015, he tried to settle things by making an agreement called the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), where they would limit Iran’s nuclear activities, in exchange, they got an easing of sanctions. This didn’t work, and the United States and Iran’s tension continued with more assassinations, and more withdrawals from agreements, and now we are at a Point of taking out the leader of Iran and inserting a new leader to bring peace with Iran and the U.S. Palisade U.S history teacher Alex Smith says no, he doesn’t believe what Donald Trump said about bombing Iran was wrong and make things worse instead he says “ situations like this require strength” and the Students at Palisade HighSchool need strength and stay strong through these hard times.
