Here at Palisade High School, the Palisade Paw Post runs a weekly section of students being highlighted in which all are involved in a variety of different things, such as sports, performing arts, and futures. This week, Palisade High School’s future of the week award was awarded to Gavin Ausband from Mrs. Green, the future program coordinator at Palisade High School. In the Futures Pathway Program, students get the opportunity to get hands on experiencing their future career. Mrs. Green watches for students that demonstrate reliance, hard work, and dedication to building their future career, which Ausband clearly does. Ausband is currently involved in the Future Fighter Fighter and EMT program hosted at Palisade Fire Department where students in the program get hands-on training, and meet the current workers. Through this program, students can be in high school and have a job at the fire department which not many people get.
In response to Ausband finding out he was chosen for student of the week, Ausband states, “I didn’t even know we had future student of the week so I feel honored and surprised to have won it.” Ausband then goes on to say, “I started the futures program for Fire and EMS (Emergency Medical Services) my sophomore year and have been doing it for almost a year and nine months.” The fire pathways program explores job pathways, but students like Ausband enjoy what they do.“Ausband states, “I would definitely recommend joining. I have learned so much and done some really interesting things that I would probably never have done during my life if it weren’t for it.” Congratulations Ausband for being selected as Future Student of the Week, being obtained as a student of the week is a big accomplishment. Your hard work, and dedication to becoming a future firefighter and Emt does not go unnoticed.
