As the school year continues, the counseling department at Palisade High School is helping students prepare for both the end of the year and what comes next. Recently, counselors visited junior classes during 5th period to talk about future plans, important skills, and opportunities available after graduation.
According to the counselor Mrs. Cameron, “The presentations with juniors went well. It was helpful to be able to review both work skills, interview skills, and talking about next steps for next year and knowing what some of the options are for students. With graduation approaching, try to be very strategic or intentional with the kinds of classes and opportunities you take.”
The counseling department also shared some exciting academic updates. Several new classes will be offered next year, along with the return of a few classes that students have not seen in a while. Returning courses include Creative Writing and Science Fiction, which many students previously enjoyed.
Some new opportunities are also being introduced. A Horror Literature class will be available for students interested in a unique reading and writing experience. In addition, an English 111 class will be offered next year and will be taught by Palisade teacher Mrs. Zamora. Other new classes include an AP Introduction to Business course and a Performance Psychology class.
Counselors also reminded students to start preparing for upcoming SAT and PSAT tests. One of the best ways students can prepare is by managing their time and keeping up with their schoolwork so they are not overwhelmed. Testing time can be extremely stressful for students, Mrs. Cameron recommends “Focus on healthy habits such as getting enough sleep, eating well, and staying hydrated. Practice stress-management strategies and build a strong support network of friends, family, and trusted adults that can help you stay calm and confident.”
The counseling department strongly encourages students to reach out if they need support. Whether it’s planning for the future, choosing classes, or managing stress, counselors are always available to help students succeed.
