In a world filled with crazy high prices, everyone wants affordable, cute options. Earlier this month, a popular boutique retailer, Francesca’s, announced bankruptcy and stated that they would close hundreds of stores across the nation, which marks the end of an era for this store.
In this economy, it’s a huge flex to buy cheap, trendy clothes to maximize style and budget, creating popular brands that the public love. Francesca’s, which is a cute clothing store that combines bohemian and preppy fashion to create a clothing line that has been extremely popular with Millennials and a portion of Gen Z.
So then why is it going bankrupt?
The answer is a mix of unlucky events and failing to keep up with the ever evolving pace of fashion. At first when sales went down, the company blamed it on the pandemic, but didn’t address the fact that they weren’t able to modernize their styles since fashion had changed. They also failed with creating new loyalty programs and keeping a strong online fan base. Although it isn’t a mainstream brand anymore, there are many people disappointed to see it go. “I’m really sad [Francesca’s is closing], I love shopping,” states Lila Huddle, who is a senior at Palisade. “I love to get dresses for dress for success at Francesca’s because they’re always on sale during the winter. I like finding $10 stuff there, it’s great.”
In an age where many people struggle to find affordable clothing, the closing of Francescas has triggered sadness in many shoppers who love purchasing clothes on a budget. By combining bohemian inspired fashion pieces with cheap prices, Francesca’s became known for cute outfits and reliable prices.
