Tuesday, March 3rd, was a big day for the Palisade Boys basketball team. It was the second round of the playoffs, and they were playing Fredrick. But it wasn’t just a playoff; it was a Sweet Sixteen, and if they won, they would play at the Coliseum. The energy around the school felt different from a normal Tuesday; everyone was talking about how good a game it was going to be and how tough this matchup was going to be, but also the amount of confidence the boys had that they were going to take another win.
The boys ended up winning 58-48 and fought hard throughout the whole game, never giving up even though they were down at halftime. Not just taking that win was the fun part, but seeing junior Todd Nordenson dunk in the last two minutes, the student section cheering, and seeing everyone stand up. He said, “It was really cool to see everyone jumping after I dunked.”
Junior Carter Hayward, “We went into the game with a different type of mentality that we weren’t gonna lose and were going to outwork.” The bulldogs put a lot of work into that game. He also said, “We were down 8 at half, but came together and talked about how we had to do different things and in the end came out with a big win.” The Bulldogs realized what they had to change and came out with a big win in the end.
Junior Jax bavor said, “We came in thinking we could roll them, but ended up being down at half, but came back.”The dogs didn’t let one point in the game bring them down. Bavor also said, “It was a very exciting game.” The atmosphere made it so much fun for the bulldogs knocking that there were so many people supporting them.
And when senior Hunter Howard got asked how he felt about winning, he said, “I was really nervous throughout that game, but we never gave up.” The Bulldogs never give up, especially Howard “I’m really excited to go to the Coliseum.” This is such a big opportunity for the Bulldogs, and they better show out at the Coliseum.
It was such an exciting game to see, not just because the boys won, but because the number of people who were there cheering them on, and how they had such a big comeback. And not just that, but seeing them enjoy the game and have so much fun celebrating afterwards. That big win put the Bulldogs at 23-2, still being the number one team, and hopeful still when they play at the Coliseum, which happened on Saturday, March 7th at 5:30, if you want to see the game on MaxPreps.
