Palisade High School wouldn’t run well without our body of Student Council, as Student Council does so much for our school such as uniting the school together, planning events, and community service. Within the last couple of weeks Stuco has been busy planning KIC (Kindness is contagious) week, and winter formal, all being hard at work behind the events put on.
Stuco representative Ana Lopes, a sophomore attending PHS was asked how their last event Winter Formal went where Lopes stated, “Our last event was Winter Formal and it went pretty good. We had some issues with the decoration because this year we didn’t have the stanchions that are one of the main things to decorate the dance floor but as a Student Council we worked together and found another alternative to this problem.” While not every dance may go as planned, Stuco is a strong body full of dedicated leaders who manage to put dances together, and look at the positive side of things. Lopes then went on to say, “I’ve been a member for two years now, and I have loved every single moment of it.” When Lopes was asked what her role in Stuco was, and her dedication to StuCo, Lopes went onto explain, “My role and commitment in Stuco is that I’m the treasurer of the sophomore class meaning I do a lot of the financial organization, such as proving a budget for our recent Winter Formal. However my commitment goes beyond just setting up and cleaning up. As a Student Council member you have to follow all of the school rules, and actually be an exemplary student and leader that other people can look up to.” Although the Student Council may seem like they are always busy planning events, Lopes wanted to express that they don’t only plan events. “I want PHS kids to know how much the Student Council cares and that we are not just a group of teenagers that plan parties, but we actually help the community by doing things such as the blood drive and the food drive.” Lopes continued and stated, “I also want kids to remember all of the events and parties that we planned of course.” Students, as the Stuco elections are coming up, remember that hard work goes far.
Overall, without dedicated members like Lopes, and a hard working student body looking out for the students of Palisade, PHS would be nothing without them. Keep working hard just like Stuco does all year long. GO DAWGS!!
