This week has been busy busy for Palisade Highschool’s Counselors. The counselors have been making a full push into middle schools, meeting with eighth graders to ease the jump into high school and walk them through what to expect in their first year. Their work comes as ICAP presentations for 11th graders approach, a key milestone in helping students map out their post graduation plans. At the same time, CMU representatives are on campus to support seniors who’ve already been accepted for next year, offering guidance as they prepare for the transition into college. On top of that, the counselors are starting to review applications of students below a 2.5 GPA and less than 80% attendance rates for CMU Tech.
They are heading into one of their busiest stretches of the year as the scheduling season kicks into full gear. Coincidently, counselors are settling back into a full team rhythm now that a colleague Jon Burke who was out recovering from surgery has returned, bringing both releif and a new period of adjustment. The weeks leading up to this point caused everyone to stretch. Redistributing workloads and coordinating to keep students supported without interruption. Counselor Renee Cameron gives Burke credit, “His brain is like a massive computer, and not just counseling, but our whole school really depends on him. We are very grateful to have him back.” Cameron acknowledges that all of this is a group effort, and she counldn’t have asked for a better team of counselors. The work our counselors do goes way beyond what we think. Theyre the steady hands guiding students through some of the most important transitions. Palisade Highschool is grateful for everything the do in supporting the students!
