Spring is coming, meaning Monday, February 23rd the track team with new members were reunited for the season, their first practice. Track is a stamina and strength producing sport, improving the abilities of the student athletes within Palisade High School. The coaches highly recommend track to student athletes when their sport is out of season, if they want to stay in their athletic shape. Engaging in track can enhance the student athletes performance and overall health, improving their cardiovascular health and endurance. Also the mental state of the Bulldogs athletes can grow within track as it is a very disciplined and hard working sport.
At track practice there are many different groups of people who practise daily, based on their events, sprints, mid distance, long distance, hurdles, discus, shotput, high jump, long jump, triple jump, and relay races. When attending the distance runner’s practices last week the relationship between the members is very kind and motivational. Each runner knows what they need and the coach, Molly Pietroski, sets up a warmup and work outs before the practice so the athletes can be as prepared as needed. Pietroski was also very motivational and kept the athletes going, while still making sure they were working.
Junior Isabella Fenske, a first time returner for the Palisade track team, spoke very highly and confidently about the community within the track team. Fenske made it to state last year, her first year, with long jump. Fenske gave the Paw Post information about the community and her first year, “It was super fun, everyone was very encouraging and it was just a really good environment. I can’t wait to see what’s going to happen throughout the season with all of the new people.” She adds about the first week of practice, “I feel like we’re already pretty close, everyone is already comfortable with each other and it’s a great environment.” A good and comfortable environment is the best for student athletes growing within their sports. She also informed me that all of the people that went to state last year, were all jumpers so very interested to see where the events go this year.
The Dawgs are back on the track, look out for the upcoming track meets Bulldogs!
