As we near the end of the winter sports season, the girls’ wrestling season is coming to an end. After months of hard work, dedication, and practice, these young athletes have one week left of their season until it’s over.
This season, there were many ups and downs, but these girls always stood back up. They showed strength and resiliency throughout many hardships and even became closer as a team. Sophomore Amaiah Aguilar speaks on these personal hardships, stating, “ The hardest match I’ve had this year was my placing at the Warrior Classic, where I passed out. I unfortunately discovered I was anemic and had multiple difficulties. On top of that, I also had heart problems. I learned that I was able to push myself, but I also learned that I should care for myself.” Amaiah had health issues, but she stayed resilient and kept pushing towards her goals, winning all of her matches at the Skyhawks girls’ tournament, all while having personal struggles.
Though there was struggles within the season Amaiah also speaks on team struggles saying, “Honestly, this year the team dynamic felt very weird with so many freshman, which made me feel like we slacked off during the first half of the season — but we returned to our core value of grit with some pretty difficult practices making all of the team feel so much closer.” Aguilar has seen major growth on the girls’ wrestling team and hopes she can medal at state. She plans on staying consistent and not stressing the upcoming regionals. Being a student athlete can be very stressful and harsh, especially in a sport such as wrestling. With every lesson learned and many difficulties, our Bulldogs really pushed through and worked hard throughout the season. Congratulations to our Palisade Girls Wrestling Team!
