The Winter Olympics, also known as the Milano Cortina, last from February 6th to February 22nd, the games have made big news. From figure skaters, to cross country skiers. The Winter Olympics of the 2026 year have been an exciting and invigorating season thus far.
Norway has been taking the lead so far in first place across the winter sports. Close behind them, leading up to second and third, are Italy and the United States. One of the most popular winter olympic sports, ice skating, has been gaining the most attention with its popular figure skaters. The United States of America is in first place currently in figure skating with its women’s team event taking gold, though the individual women’s event medal hasn’t been decided. The team included; Amber Glenn, Alysa Liu, and Isabeau Levito. Men’s figure skater for the USA Ilia Malinin made jaws drop while performing a backflip on the ice that had been banned from the Olympics until now, winning the gold medal as well for the USA.
Freshman from PHS Hank Walton who has been watching the Winter Olympics commented on how they’ve been going so far stating, “It’s really amazing to see somebody dedicate themselves to something they’re so passionate about.” The winter olympics don’t only show us the sport, but also the hard work and dedication that some people commit to. To pursue their dreams. Other sports for both mens and womens included sports like curling, ice hockey, freestyle skiing, alpine skiing, and cross country skiing.
