February 10th was off to an exciting morning with junior Maggie Brown, a special education student here at Palisade. Brown was brave enough to sing the national anthem during morning announcements. The joy and pure excitement from her leading everyone in the morning is quite an honor. Brown, beaming with pride, added, “I had fun singing,” a simple statement that captured the spirit of the moment as she helped set a cheerful tone for the day. Sophomore Kaylee Stokes adds to this, “ It brought me a lot of joy and caused me to sing along, which was really fun. I enjoyed listening to it. It was a new experience Im glad I had it.” This reassures that the idea that the unannounced anthem was a delightful surprise.
Another standout voice in the Palisade High School community, known as Coach D, shared his reaction with a mix of surprise and admiration. “ ‘Hold on’, it hit me, I didn’t know she had such a beautiful voice,” he said, still smiling at the memory. His words, warm and sincere, reflect more than just a compliment for Maggie’s talent. They capture the spirit of the school, rallying around one important person here at Palisade.
In moments like these, to start kindness week, the strength of the Palisade community becomes unmistakable. Student, staff, and families alike have come together to honor the courage it took for her to step into the spotlight. Coach D’s reaction mirrors what so many across this campus have felt: a genuine appreciation for Browns bravery and a renewed sense of school pride in the supportive environment that defines Palisade High School. Browns national anthem is simply what this community does—lift each other, cheer each other on, and recognize the extraordinary moments that remind everyone why Palisade is more than a school. It’s a family.

That’s my girl! I am so appreciative of the staff and students at PHS accepting Maggie and allowing her to be her wonderful self.
