When Valentine’s Day rolls around, it’s common to think about love, especially for others as KIC week rolls around. KIC week (aka Kindness is Contagious week) celebrates inclusivity and belonging, which is a vital part of high schools across the valley. Part of the festivities include spirit days, a guest speaker, and merch.
KIC week originated from Fruita High School, and the idea quickly spread around the valley from school to school. In a world where things may seem dreary, the celebration gives the chance for students to show compassion to one another and emphasize how important it is to care for others. With different events, celebrations are sure to make this week sweeter. “This week’s KIC week is gonna have a lot of different things involved in it,” remarks Izzy Castillo, the head organizer of KIC week. “For example, we’re gonna have an assembly here at Palisade High School, which will have a guest speaker to let students have a deeper insight of what it means to include other people and be kind. We will also have a donut swap, so students will receive free donuts before school on Wednesday in the morning. Then there will also be free stickers for students to get, and you’ll be able to purchase a Kindness is Contagious sweater.” Not to mention, there are multiple spirit days including Warm and Fuzzy and Camo Out, which is a unique way to show school spirit.
With multiple fun events promoting an important topic, KIC week serves as a fun way to encourage and practice kindness throughout the valley.
