On Thursday, January 22, the 98th Oscar nominees were announced by Oscar-nominated actor and actress, Lewis Pullman and Danielle Brooks. With 24 categories and each category having 5 nominations, besides best picture, which has 10 nominations, the night of the awards is going to be bustling with everyone you can think of that makes up the movie-making process. Many different actors, actresses, directors, editors, and makeup artists are looking forward to this night in hopes of earning an Oscar. Also, for the first time since 2001, a new category has been added, “Best Casting.” For the second year in a row, television host, writer, and comedian Conan O’Brien will be hosting the Oscars. The official date, as provided by the Good Morning America website, will be aired March 15, 2026, at 5:00 pm MST.
The Palisade Bulldogs become very invested in these award shows, as they feature many popular actors and movies that they watch as soon as they come out. Junior Evelyn Forte stated, “[I am most excited for] best actor and actress, which is kind of a basic answer, but those are the ones I’m most passionate about, because I just believe so ardently that Timothy Chalamet and Jesse Buckley should win in their respective categories.” Chalamet was nominated for his performance in “Marty Supreme” and Buckley for her performance in “Hamnet”. Another Bulldog, Sophomore Jack Yu stated, “One category I am super excited for is best directors. I think that’s going to go to Chloe Zhao this year for her work on Hamnet. I think that movie was so great.” Looking forward to the night, Forte and Yu will be two of the many Bulldogs looking forward to seeing if their predictions come true.
When asked about things these Bulldogs were surprised about for the nominations, we were met with two different approaches. “I’m not surprised that Sinners got a lot of nominations. I am surprised that it broke the record above Titanic and The Lord of the Rings. All of those 16 nominations, it was a great movie, don’t get me wrong, but that’s a lot of nominations,” stated Forte. Sinners getting nominated for 67% of the total number of categories is a lot. While Forte said she is surprised by the number of nominations that one movie got, Yu stated he was surprised about someone not getting nominated, “It’s crazy that Paul Mescal did not get nominated for any Oscar this year for his role in Hamnet.” Also, Yu later went on to say, “It’s kind of crazy that Wicked[: For Good] didn’t get nominated for anything, even for costume design or things like that.”
Movies have always been one thing that can bring people together like no other. However, these nominations have many Bulldogs on the edge of their seats, wondering who will win. On March 15, Bulldogs like Forte and Yu will finally be able to rest knowing that their favorite actor or director won. Until then, Bulldogs!
