This past weekend, January 24th to the 26th, the X Games were hosted in Aspen, Colorado. X Games is a series of action sports founded by Entertainment and Sports Programming Network, including skiing, snowboarding, and snowmobiling. This year was a big year for the organization as it was its 25th annual competition.
This year, a few of our very own Palisade students had the chance to go and meet some of the athletes competing. Freshman Kayden Wickham was able to watch the competition this year. “It was very fun,” Wickham stated. “I got the chance to meet Zeb Powell, and he signed my glove too.” Athlete Zeb Powell competed in men’s snowboard knuckle huck.
The live music was full of up and coming names and the line up was very good and consistent being made up of artists Friday TESSLA performing during the day and Disco Lines performing at night, Saturday Sky Brown, Girlfriends, and Kendoll performing during the day Alesso performing at night. As well as the events being in good order having a little time in between them. The competitions were split into women and men allowing more games to take place.
This event is an incredible experience that brings people from all different ski destinations of the world to Aspen to watch some of the greatest skiers, snowboards and snowmobilers together to show off their skills and abilities.
This competition was right before the Winter Olympics making the amount of athletes sparse because they did not want to be injured but some still made it out a very noticeable athlete being Alex Hall the professional American skier who ended up taking gold that night in men’s ski knuckle huck which is his 15th medal and his 8th gold. This was a night full of firsts but it was also a night that will ‘last’ forever.
