At Palisade High School, the Future Pathways Program is an important aspect of school because it allows students to discover different options for future careers. This week’s Futures Student of the Week was Mia Parades. Parades is a sophomore here at Palisade and is in the Biliteracy Pathways Program. According to “D51 Futures Pathways Program” the Biliteracy program, “…develops advanced language skills and prepares students for the Seal of Biliteracy, recognizing fluency in English and another language.” This program helps students further improve their language skills and expand their knowledge of other cultures.
After being asked how she felt that she earned Futures Student of the Week Parades responded with, “I was honestly really surprised and I wasn’t expecting it at all but I feel pretty proud.” Being in the pathways program for sure has its ups and downs but Parades makes the most out of her experience in this program. She continues to say, “My favorite part of being in the Biliteracy pathway program would be the different opportunities along with helping other people because I find that really important.” Not only does being in this program look good on resumes and college applications, it is also beneficial to yourself and other people.
For those thinking about joining the program Parades says, “I would say totally do it because it’s such a good feeling knowing that you’re helping people and also it’s really rewarding to do what you want to do.” Joining this program can really help you in the long run and it allows you to get practice before you leave high school. Being in the pathways program while in high school makes students feel more confident in themselves when they end up actually pursuing that passion. Congratulations to Mia Parades for earning Futures Student of the Week!
