After a tough loss to Grand Junction High School on January 13th, the Bulldogs boys basketball team bounced back with a strong response on Tuesday, January 20th, defeating Central High School 54-36. The final score reflected the team’s resilience and determination, while the energy in the gym, fueled by passionate supporters from both schools, added intensity to an already spirited matchup. With the Bulldog’s recent win, teammate Carter Hayward pointed to one player who’s shown ability and strength on the court. “I think, right now, Jaquoix is stepping up, just coming off the bench and now coming into a starting role and accepting that position. He’s playing really well right now. I think he’s been a huge part of us.” Hayward commented. Having a new starter on the court has brought the team’s abilities, confidence, and willingness to embrace a loss, which has not only strengthened the team but also set a tone for the rest of the season.
After a week of long, late night practices and film sessions, the team is beginning to feel a renewed sense of energy and focus. Hayward adds,“ Once we got back to practice and just went back to work and played with each other a little more and did some different things, it’s been working out really well. So I think we’re excited not only to play these other teams, like Fruita on Friday. But also get revenge against them.” The time spent together has clearly shaped the team’s mindset heading into both practice and upcoming games. Players arrived at the Central game with a fresh perspective after a weekend win against Durango, balancing an open mind with a determined focus on winning. That mentality the team has reflects the effort and execution shown on the court.
