Here at Palisade High school, the Bulldogs are met with many opportunities to get a glimpse of life after high school which includes the pathways program put together by the pathways counselor, Mrs. Green. The pathways program is a credit and hands-on set up program where the student are provided with classes related to their chosen field and real life experiences to extend their knowledge and credibility. Students can receive certifications during high school and the program ends in an internship or an apprenticeship. Mrs. Green has seen many students persevere through this program and move on to pursue the career that they studied and experienced while in high school.
A story that Mrs. Green had shared, about a young man who had graduated and started his family while he was quite young. He took part in the pathways program and is now working in the same job that he interned at in high school. He had upgraded to the manager position and is now supporting his family. Even if students are in different situations it is beneficial to get some experience of the real world under their belts with the pathways program.
During an interview with Mrs. Green she talked about how to sign up and get involved in a pathway, “We have currently eight programs at this school, Culinary arts, hospitality resort and event management, lead, careers in biliteracy, careers in business, fire academy, the peace officer pre-academy, and the careers in construction.” There is a wide variety and many different ways that a Bulldog can pick to go through. She also informed me if anyone is interested in signing up for these programs that right now would be a great time. You can get information at the tvs right outside of her office and on the Schoolinks engagement tab which provides students with detailed information about each program.
Green continues “The internships have been really powerful. We have students in internships right now at elementary and middle schools, in HVAC, electricity, and all over. These students are gaining hands-on industry experience and they’re able to sometimes land jobs. Plus, I think even if it doesn’t land you a job, it looks really good on your resume or you at least know that that’s a career you can go into.” She also added that it’s not a waste of time or energy because students can figure out what they do and don’t want to pursue before they are in the real world and really have to figure out things for themselves. Lastly, “If you are interested in a pathway or have any questions just stop by the future’s pathways office.” Which has moved from A hall to right outside of the Main office.
Scheduling starts for next year around March first so make sure you speak up before any of the pathways are filled up and visit Mrs. Green with any questions. Look to the future Bulldogs.
