Here at Palisade High School, there is a Futures Pathways Program that allows kids to explore possible career choices. This week’s Futures Student of the Week is senior Tobyn Trottier for the Construction Pathway. This pathway lets students learn hands-on skills in trades and construction. This program emphasizes safety workforce readiness, preparing students with an immediate education for future career options.
When asked if Trottier saw himself pursuing construction as a career, he responded with, “ I’ve seen construction as an option for my future career, but I am still unsure if that is the career I fully want to put my life into.” The Futures Pathway Program is a very hands-on experience, and many kids in the program would tell you that it is their favorite part of the program because it lets kids get a deeper feel for their possible career of choice. Trottier says, “ My favorite part of the program is that you will get a taste of the work and the working conditions that will be brought along with the work. The benefits of getting the certification in construction foundation are very helpful if you want to pursue that. And the qualities of this pathway are getting familiar with the tools and the work that you will be doing in these different trades.” When you are in these Future programs, you tend to get a role assigned to you either on purpose or just by coincidence. Trottier feels that his role is to keep everyone doing something and to make sure work is getting done by everyone. Overall, if you feel on the edge about whether you should join a pathway or not, Trottier says, “ I would recommend pathways because these programs give you a head start in your career. It wouldn’t hurt you to get qualifications, especially if you plan on doing them as a career.” But overall, congratulations to Tobyn Trottier for earning Futures of the week.
