The New York City Marathon took place on Sunday November 2, 2025, and it brings together athletes from all over the world. This amazing race broke the record for the largest marathon ever, according to nycrr.org, with 59,226 runners that completed the race, pushing their limits. The race took place across New York’s five boroughs: Staten Island, The Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn, and Manhattan. The New York City Marathon is a competition, but it is also a gathering of people from all over the world who want to push themselves to the limit.
The race starts on the Verazzano-Narrows Bridge and continues for 26.2 miles, and finishes in Central Park. The streets are lined with thousands of people cheering, holding signs, and taking photos and videos. All of the thousands of spectators contribute to the excitement, and the stress of the race. There are also a lot of news outlets reporting on the event, due to its huge impact.
Some of these athletes have trained for months for this race, so that they could have the best race they could. The top three for both the men’s and the women’s races were all from Kenya, and finished in just over two hours.
Even famous people like Oliver Phelps, who played Weasley in Harry Potter, ran to fundraise for varying foundations and charities. Jordan Litz, who stars in Broadway’s Wicked, also ran the race raising money for Broadway Cares and Equity Fights AIDS. Once he finished, he had to star in two more Broadway shows that same day, according to Runner’s World. These are only two of the many runners who raised money for charities.
According to Palisade teacher Mrs. Pietroski, “Running a marathon is one of the hardest, best and wildest experiences. Races that draw massive crowds adds an energy that is indescribable.” Mrs. Pietroski also states, “I have never done the New York Marathon, but it is one of my favorites to watch. People line the streets, from start to finish, to support the runners.” Mrs. Pietroski says, “I think as running becomes more and more popular, people will want to run these well known races that bring out some of the best runners in the world.”
This marathon takes both determination and endurance to finish the race. The New York City marathon is a 54 year old tradition, showing what runners from all over the world are capable of.
