Recently, as many of you know, there have been drug boat strikes in the Caribbean. These were issued by the United States as a way to prevent drugs coming into the country, which kills thousands of civilians every year. These strikes usually kill everyone aboard the boat, but some recent information has shown that there were survivors that were killed with a second strike in a specific incident. Traditionally this is known as a war crime, because the survivors were not in combat, or a threat to the United States. There has been speculation on who authorized the strike, with two main suspects. Pete Hegseth, Secretary of War, and Admiral James Bradley. In my old story, “US Venezuela Tensions,” I covered the political aspects of the strikes and what effect that they had. Also in that story I mentioned that the Trump Administration sent eight warships and a submarine to the Caribbean, which was overseen by Admiral Bradley. As of now Bradley has not had any action taken against him, or any action against Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth. Palisade sophomore Reese Edmonds states, “I’m happy that they are doing these strikes, we don’t need any cartels trafficking drugs to our country.” Many share the same sentiment as Edmonds, but others also feel that the second strike on that drug boat was not necessary and there were better ways to handle it. Overall the people involved in this possible war crime have not faced consequences for their actions, and likely won’t. It also seems like this little outrage will not put an end to these strikes anytime soon.
