As Palisade High School approaches the end of the first semester and winter break, there is a fun Christmas and winter themed Spirit Week on the last 12 days of school. Students dress up based on the theme of the day. Starting on Monday was Christmas themed pajama day, Tuesday was Flannel out, Wednesday was Christmas tree day so students wore green clothing, Thursday is snow out so students wore white, and Friday is sweater day so students wore either an ugly sweater or one of their favorite sweaters. Friday was also bring your own mug day for free hot chocolate from Palisade’s STUCO during the second half of lunch. After being asked what her favorite winter spirit day was, sophomore Journey Deshields says, “My favorite spirit day this week was ugly sweater day because I love wearing sweaters and wearing silly ones just makes it more fun.” Deshields also mentions, “The hot chocolate part was also fun because it was free.” Deshields thought that the spirit week was fun and creative, giving students at PHS to express themselves.
Sophomore Student Council member Camila Magallanes says, “We plan the spirit weeks by taking into account what people would like and how much participation we would get.” STUCO plans all the spirit weeks and takes into consideration what would make students happy. Magallanes also says, “This year we tried not to do ‘out there’ spirit weeks because we wanted to get more participation.” This weeks spirit week was a big success to end off finals week on a good note.
