On December 11th and 12th, Palisade High School hosted a Speech and Debate tournament. Xander Mullenax, a freshman here at Palisade, states, “All in all, I think it went really well. We had some issues with beginning to set things up, but I think it ended up going really well.” Hosting eleven other state-wide schools, Palisade had many other competitors and the team had to do a lot in order to prepare, so naturally it is already stressful, especially with the added mental preparation of the competition.
Our team showed amazing performance against the other schools, but a few of our competitors went above and beyond. Mullenax states, “Gigi Spriggs, one of our team captains, placed first in Lincoln Douglas.” The Lincoln Douglas debate had almost 29 participants across eight different schools, making this very rigorous. The one-on-one debate has many philosophical questions as well making our school proud to say that we had the first place winner. Also, Mullenax states, “Our school ended up getting third in World Schools Debate.” Participants in this event were; juniors Gabrielle Spriggs, Lauren Spriggs and Max Bourkovski as well as freshman Hank Walton and Ava Talley. With five other teams placing in this event against multiple other participants, this is also a great accomplishment.
Evelyn Forte, a junior here at Palisade, placed sixth in both Big Questions 1v1 and Congress House 1. Logan Waggoner, also a junior Bulldog, participated in Domestic Extemporaneous, and placed fourth, and Impromptu, and placed sixth. Another Speech and Debate junior bulldog, Max Bourkovski, placed fourth in International Extemporaneous and fourth in Public Forum Debate, with his partner, junior Lucie Matthews. All placements can be seen on SpeechWire as well.
Amazing job on the wins Bulldogs!
