Palisade wrestling has finally started up and it is already off to a good start, already, Palisade has dueled two teams, beating both. One of the duels was against Moab and the other was against the 2A state champions: Cederidge. Palisade’s varsity team also went to Pueblo for a tournament while the JV team went to Olathe. Senior Tegan Young commented on the win against Moab saying, “We did pretty good. I feel like we all definitely had some nerves there, but came out with the win.” Young claims that on their first duel everyone was quite nervous and not really prepared. But when the time for the duel came they were able to pull it off and win the duel 63 to 18. Which in reality means only three kids lost on the Palisade team.
Palisade also wrestled against Cedaredge the next day. Cedaredge placed 1st in the 2A State Championship last year. Young also quoted, “Cedaredge is a tough team so we are all going to have to be locked in.” Palisade ended up winning the dual with a close against Cedaredge.
Palisade then traveled to Pueblo to wrestle in a varsity tournament there. In Young’s first match after beating the kid. Young earned his 100th win at Palisade high school. Young then went on to win the tournament beating every kid in his path. Three kids won the Pueblo Central tournament including junior Kadin Mulford, junior Eli Bency, and senior Tegan Young. Palisade at the start of this year was ranked 6th in the state for 4A wrestling. The first week has been great Bulldogs and hopefully a good rest of their year as they continue on.
