The sparkling new Grand Junction High School is equipped with the new gym, pristine and in great condition. However, this all changed when the Palisade Bulldog volleyball team showed up and created a vicious bloodbath, victorying a 3-0 final score.
The volleyball team has been having an amazing season, priding their undefeated success. On September 26, the Bulldogs visited the Tigers, confident in their skills as a team and their talented individuals. In the first set, the Bulldogs paced themselves well. The first set scored 25-7, giving Junction a run for their money. Limiting errors was a big focus on achieving success. Palisade accomplished this and forced errors on the opponent.
Sophomore Lizzie Snover says, “It was cool to work as a team and push through.” The Palisade girls volleyball team always sets goals before a game. “We were focused on having good defense and serve receive. We wanted to earn our points, not just let them give it to us,” explains Snover.
During the second set, the score ended up as 25-10. Overall, Palisade stayed strong and adapted to a spike in Junction’s energy. The Bulldogs were laughing throughout the game, clearly enjoying the action no matter if they messed up. Palisade’s student section cheered and clapped for the team, adding encouragement and positivity. Some even think that more Palisade students attended the game than Junction students. Junior Riley O’Hara exclaims, “The size comparison was pretty wild. Also, we were doing funny chants like ‘This is Our House’. The vibe overall was really good.” O’Hara coined Snover’s passes and Senior Sabrina Landman’s hits as “awesome”.
The third and final set ended with a score of 25-6. The Bulldogs put up a fight and came out victorious. Junction missed several serves and hit the majority of them out of bounds. This allowed the Bulldogs to completely annihilate the Tigers in their own jungle. Overall, their goals of good serve receives and cover on defense were achieved. Snover concludes, “I was working on correct footing, platform and angle. I was making sure to get it to my setter so we can run our offense and work hard on defense.”
Great job to the volleyball team! The next varsity game is October 3rd at 6pm where Palisade will face Fruita. The theme is Pink Out, spreading breast cancer awareness. Pack the stands Bulldogs!
