Last Saturday, April 13th, our baseball team faced the Eagle Valley Devils in a double header for their fourth league match-up of the season. They won both games, still maintaining first place in league standings. “The games went pretty good, the first game was close because we didn’t come out there firing like we should have, then the second game we had no mercy and just laid it down on them,” says Sophomore Dylon Larson. The first game, they won 9-2 with ten hits and one error. Sophomore Kian Kinslow and Junior Caleb Blanck both hit 1.000. The score was tied in the 4th inning 2-2, then the boys picked it up in the bottom of the 5th racking up six runs. Sophomore Hunter Howard had a home run to start it off, scoring two runs, then Senior Titus Porter hit one triple and had two RBI’s to add. Larson had one stolen base, and now attains ten stolen bases for the season. Junior Garrett Draper pitched this game, only allowing five hits and two runs. “Our batting was kind of flat, we had people who were putting the ball in play, it wasn’t exactly where we needed it, but our defense was good and our pitching was good,” says Larson. In the second game, they took the win 15-4 with seven hits and no errors. Larson hit 1.000, along with Sophomore Bladimir Valdivia. Larson had three RBI’s, and one double. Valdivia added two RBI’s. Larson, Juniors Ascher Morby and Christian Herrera all pitched in this game. Herrera collected two strikeouts and Larson collected one. Kinslow had three hits, and two RBI’s. “I love baseball because you never know what’s going to happen, it’s a game where anything can happen,” says Larson on behalf of his love for the game. This win allowed the boys to hold first place in league. They have six league games still to go, facing Battle Mountain, Rifle and Glenwood Springs. Good luck the rest of the season!
