The sky being lit up by one of the storms on Saturday

The past couple of weeks have been filled with heavy storms here in Junction. After the hot summer weather, some rain will always be appreciated, but was there too much? According to student Ashley Roten, a sophomore at PHS, the rain was good at first but it started to become too much. She stated, “I think we needed some rainfall especially because we basically live in a desert, but then some parts of town started flooding, and the lighting was insane.” The lighting that came with these storms has lately been striking down trees as well as homes. The thunder that came before even seemed like it shook the entire town. There was small amounts of flooding but it seemed to be under control for the most part. Ashley added, “The storms were scary especially since I live in an older house, the thunder was so loud I kept waking up every time I heard it.” The way the storms lit up our skies even impressed the National Weather Service. According to weather reports, we are in monsoon season, which starts at the beginning of June and fades away by the end of September. Monsoon season isn’t just rainy weather, monsoon season can even make some climates dry. It’s caused by the change in direction of the wind that happens when the seasons change. This is by far one of the most drastic monsoon seasons we’ve had in a very long time. Luckily nothing drastically happened in our town during the storms so far, but there are still more to come according to weather reports. Stay safe and tune in for updates as monsoon season goes on.
