Many New PR’s and Endings

The 2023 track season is sadly coming to an end as the last meet for many of the runners is this Saturday. The Last Chance meet is just what it sounds like- the last chance for many runners to try to make State this year.

Many people did get new personal records this season including Freshman and distance runner, Hank DeFord. “I PR’d in 1600. My previous time was 5:05 and my new record was 5:02.27. I only placed 11th out of 18, but I was going against some of the best kids in the State. The guy who got first place finished with a time of 4:16. It felt really good to shave off that time on Saturday and I felt so accomplished after it was finished. I didn’t expect to enjoy track this much when I started. I turned out to be a surprisingly good long-distance runner and it’s been really fun to be on the team. It has been rigorous, but very rewarding to be a part of such a fun team. The 1600, or mile is definitely my best event. It’s four laps around the track and it’s hard but fun.”

The next and last meet of the season is this Saturday and is many runners’ last chance at making State. DeFord said, “I haven’t made State yet, but I don’t think any of the distance runners this year have either. I’m kind of far off from making State, but this is my first year and first time doing track, so it isn’t bothering me too much. I hope next year I will though.”

We wish the Track and Field members good luck at their last meet on Saturday. Go Dogs!
