All last week, Monday, April 27th to Friday, May 1st, many students were experiencing problems with their phones’ Wi-Fi. Many students thought it was just happening because of the horrible school’s Wi-Fi until finding out that it was only affecting half of the school. It was very unexpected, and many students thought the wifi was down in the school for a day until it took a whole week. Students didn’t know what was happening until coming to the conclusion that it could be Wifi blockers, also known as wifi jammers, which are devices or systems that disrupt internet connectivity.
After asking Assistant Principal Borgmann if the school was planning to set up wifi blockers, he replied with “I don’t know much about that, but there could be.” Mostly meaning they were testing it, and they are possibly planning on having them.
Junior Taylor Waalkes was one of the students who was having difficulty with their phone. She said, “I had no clue what was happening. Nothing on my phone was loading, but at least it’s working this week.” So many other students had a problem.
Freshman Abi Ellison was one of the students who wasn’t experiencing any problems. She said, “I don’t know why so many people were freaking out, but it doesn’t matter because my phone was working perfectly fine.” There was also a way to somehow bypass it because it didn’t apply to everyone.
Starting this week off, the wifi has gone back to normal, and nobody is experiencing any more problems, but there are many schools that have gone the route of wifi blockers, and here, many students feel that there shouldn’t be wifi blockers.
Let’s keep our fingers crossed that next year, Palisade doesn’t have any Wifi blockers and we are still able to have our phones.
