On Friday, February 20th, the Palisade Bulldogs Boys basketball team played our number one rivalry team, Fruita Monument High School. With the Bulldogs beating them once at their home court, they were ready to bite the cats in their own gym. The Bulldogs took their second win against Fruita, ending with a score of 47-40.
It was an amazing fight from both teams. It was such a packed gym with shouting coming from players and the crowd. It was such a tight game, and everyone was on the edge of their seat the whole game, except for the Bulldogs, who took care of business.
After interviewing senior Hunter Howard about his thoughts on the Fruita game, he said, “Coming off that game we played on Tuesday against central that wasn’t our best. We definitely put all four quarters together on Friday.” The Bulldogs knew exactly who they were when they walked in for warm-ups. Howard states, “I think I played pretty well… free throws are a big thing because I made six for seven.” Howard ended up shooting two technical free throws and making them, which really put them up and made Fruita nervous.
When asking junior Rye Gingerich about his thoughts on how the team played, he said, “We didn’t let the halftime deficit get to us.” Halftime was their “get back”; they were ready to take over the game, especially coming in with a lot of heat from Fruita. Gingerich also said, “We came back and never gave up.” The Bulldogs kept going and never paid attention to the score until the end.
The Bulldogs continue to practice hard and prepare to take on Pueblo County on February 27th at 5:30 pm, so make sure you are there to support the number one team in the state! Go Bulldogs!
