The new film, Wuthering Heights is coming out in theaters on February 13, 2026. The film is gaining criticism before it even has come out as a full movie. The film supposedly is based on the famous and loved book by Emily Brontë, though the movie trailer and what we know so far has seemed to capture the dark themes of the book and the whole mood. What really caught fans and people who read the book’s attention is the actors picked for the part. The two main roles in the movie, Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff, were picked to play the parts by Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie. Fans have commented that in the book, the main male character, Heathcliff is described as a “dark-skinned gypsy” and users have complained that they should’ve picked someone more fitting for the role instead of a popular actor seen in multiple other films made today by HollyWood. Freshman Aubrey Williams, excited for the upcoming movie states, “I think they’re beautiful, obviously, but I think we should use new actors instead of recycling the same ones.” Which sums up many fans’ opinions all over the internet on the decisions made to create this film. Margot Robbie is playing a young aged girl which in the books is from the age of 15-19 doesn’t quite fit the role of the character.
Another controversy that came up amongst fans is that compared to the book. The description of the show seems to be too intimate, almost like they’re trying to get more attention to the movie because of the aspect, while in the book though it is considered a classic romance the romance is more passionate emotionally. Described in the book by emotions rather than scenes that come off as having no meaning to them or overloaded with romance in a physical way and not the aspect the book gives off which is in a meaningful, heart wrenching, and forbidden love story between the two main characters. There’s multiple excitement to see these loved actors play these large roles again despite criticism on social media, and some still unsure but fans of the book and the actors will have to wait till February 13th. And see if the movie will be better than it has been criticized and opted out to be, or if it will surprisingly change fans views and opinions, and turn out to be a hit like some have already predicted.
