Last Sunday, February 8th the Seattle Seahawks won the Super Bowl against the New England Patriots, the score being 29-13. Super Bowl sixty took place in Santa Clara, California. The game carried very steadily throughout the first three quarters, the Seahawks scoring five field goals in the first through third quarter and two touchdowns in the fourth quarter, along with the Patriots scoring two touchdowns in the fourth quarter. The whole game was very heavily carried by the defense. The Seahawks defense sacked Drake Maye, the Patriots quarterback six times. On the offense, Kenneth Walker III, the running back for the Seahawks, easily carried the game, while becoming an MVP for rushing 135 yards and 27 touches on the ball throughout the whole game.
Before the game, both of the quarterbacks sat down and had an interview about their teams and their past, the New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye and the Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold. Sam Darnold stated, “But playing for this team, I think playing with those guys in the locker room is the kind of bond that we’ve all created through this long season.” Darnold came into this season as a new quarterback for the Seahawks and carried them all the way to winning the Super Bowl. During Maye’s interview he mentioned, “And I think the best thing that I say that my brothers kind of gave me was that I had to chase something. You know, they all had found a passion in life and I was able to chase them and find a passion for myself and it being football. And know that wasn’t our purpose, but a passion in life.” Maye was in his second year playing for the New England Patriots, and he was drafted in 2024.
Opening the Super Bowl, Greenday sang a few of their songs while introducing the NFL hall of fame members. Coco Jones sang “Life Every Voice and Sing,” Charlie Puth sang “The Star-Spangled banner,” and Brandi Carlile sang “Beautiful the Great.” Then for the half time show, Bad Bunny took the field, filling it with culture, and even showcasing a wedding and many other celebrities such as Pedro Pascal and Cardi B attended as well, dancing on the field. During the performance, Lady Gaga and Ricky Martin also sung a few lines of their chosen songs. Lady Gaga sang “die with a smile” and Rickly Martin sang a course of Bad Bunny’s song “Lo Que Le Paso A Hawaii.”
Before the Super Bowl last Thursday, Cadence Segers, a Palisade softball and track student, shared her hopes and opinions on the Super Bowl “I think the Patriots are going to win, I haven’t really kept up with the Seahawks, but with my own morals I hope for the Patriots. They’re doing really well, even though they have a young quarterback, but he also might crumble under the pressure of the super bowl.” Segars also adds, “I think the Super Bowl is going to cause some friendly competition throughout the school.” It’s good to see some debate within the school, while keeping it friendly.
Super Bowl sixty ended with a bang ringing through the halls of Palisade High school.
