Last week, the boys’ basketball team had a tournament all the way in Pueblo. The boys had to get up early and leave the school to get on their way at 7 AM.
They played Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, which means they missed full school days a week before finals week, a part of playing a sport while being in school. Being a student athlete is one of the hardest things with school in the way.
Juniors Rye Gingerich and Carter Hayward were both part of the all-tournament team. This showed how they stood out during this tournament and played the best in Pueblo with the help of their team. Gingerich said, “We played pretty good, especially since the football guys came back a week early.” Without the football boys, there wouldn’t be much of a basketball team, so luckily, they came back and were able to take a win for the whole tournament in Pueblo. Gingerich said, “I didn’t even know I got it…but it felt great.” Being chosen and not even knowing it until after being told by a coach is such an amazing feeling to have because it shows how your hard work has been paying off. “Nobody cares about stats,” Hayward added, showing how they all work as a team. When asked the question how does it feel to be undefeated Hayward said, “It feels really good, I don’t think we’ve ever had a start to the season this well.” And for the boys, it gives them the opportunity to get better and grow as a team.
Last week, the boys took a 3-0 lead and are preparing for their upcoming tournament on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. With a big target on their back from being undefeated so far, they look to take another win against Moffat County.
So come out this week, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, with some Bulldog spirit, cheering on our boys basketball team for a win, all starting at 7:30 PM.
