A recent plane crash in Kentucky has left at least 12 people dead following this tragedy. On Tuesday, November 4th, 2025, a United Parcel Service plane was taking off from Louisville Mohammed International Airport, headed for Honolulu, Hawaii. At 5:13 PM local time, the plane crashed into surrounding areas, busting into a fireball from the fuel, which caught fire during the crash. Sophomore Sawyer Pidcock states, “The plane crash was very catastrophic, commercial plane crashes in America are so rare. The plane most likely crashed due to bad maintenance, and what appears to be engine failure.”
Due to the government shutdown, air traffic controllers are not being paid, possibly leading to less concentration of their job. In the videos online, it appears that the crash was just the plane’s fault, and had nothing to do with the air traffic controllers. According to the Louisville mayor, Craig Greenberg, the 14th and last victim of the plane crash was found on Friday, November 7th, 2025, which was posted on his social media. The plane involved in this incident was a McDonnell Douglas, which was later merged with Boeing in 1997. According to CNN, the reason for the plane crash was as follows: “The left hand engine and pylon detached from the airplane during takeoff,” and later the FFA stated “The unsafe condition is likely to exist or develop in other products of the same type of design.” These things can happen to any plane under the right circumstances, so it’s always a priority to make sure all aircrafts are safe for everyone before takeoff.
