Winter track is a non-D51-affiliated sport; therefore, all the schools in the valley come together to make a team. Winter track has already started for distance runners and will start for sprinters roughly in early December. Palisades Head Coach for Track, Mrs. Reetz, said, “I view winter track as a positive and enriching experience for anyone who joins. I would strongly recommend it to students not currently involved in a winter sport. As a club activity, it offers a more flexible schedule compared to other competitive winter sports, yet still provides the opportunity to grow as an athlete and connect with teammates from across different schools in a supportive and motivating environment.” Winter track is recommended for athletes of any sport; it will keep them in shape throughout the winter while socializing with students from different schools. Reetz also said, “Because track and field encompasses such a wide range of events, winter track allows athletes to focus on improving specific skills or techniques related to their individual events in preparation for the spring season. Those who participate in winter track often find it to be a rewarding experience; it gives them a chance to refine their craft and build more confidence.” Winter track has many events, giving more opportunities to work on the skills needed for spring events. For example, if you play baseball, soccer, football, or lacrosse and need to be quicker or have more stamina, winter track is the perfect offseason club for you. To sum this up, winter track is a great chance to improve your physical and social fitness if you are not currently enrolled in a winter activity.
