With the fall sports season coming to an end, Palisade’s Varsity team has accomplished a lot this year despite losses, from promoting new team leaders to creating a strong team bond. Last Friday, Palisade’s volleyball team finished their last home game, and although they didn’t win, through team work, determination, and playing with heart they proved that the scoreboard doesn’t define success.
Palisade’s opponent for this game was Colorado Springs (Village), an team from the Front Range. Although there was tough competition, the lady Bulldogs didn’t let this faze them. As suspense filled the gym along with strong willpower, the Bulldogs started the first set strongly, but fell short two points, marking a close win for Village. As the second set began, tensions began rising in both teams. The pressure was on, and Palisade lost the second set, 17-25. Although the Bulldogs lost by a wider margin, this fueled an impressive comeback in the third set, where Palisade won 25-17. Heading into the fourth set, the stakes were high, putting pressure on each and every player in the gym. The Bulldogs fought hard and put up an impressive fight against Colorado Springs, but sadly lost by three points, making the final score 22-25. Despite the fact that Palisade lost, several players on the team made an impressive amount of assists and aces.
Lots of support and teamwork were prioritized by the varsity volleyball team, setting an example for other teams by emphasizing that no matter if a team wins or loses, it’s about giving it your all and fighting until the end. Abby Talbott, a Sophomore at Palisade remarks, “Even though we lost the game I feel like our attitude as a team and the environment was a lot better in this game than the last few. We never gave up on each other and we definitely worked for our Senior Rylin Elsrod.”
Even though the volleyball season is coming to an end, Palisade still has a tournament against Pagosa Springs this Friday which will surely be an exciting match. Make sure to stay tuned to Paw Post for more volleyball news!
