This week the choir teacher, Mr. Doty at Palisade High School has picked two outstanding students to be recognized for performing arts of the week, Regyn Coolbaugh and Maria Luna. When the newspaper staff talked to these students they were both very excited to accept the title. Both of their faces lit up and it was incredible to see the dedication and passion they both had for singing and performing. First, Luna said “I’ve always been very passionate about singing, I’ve been singing ever since I was little, just like in my church.” Then she later added on “It’s really fun when you actually get to do things, like go out and sing for people.” She was a very sweet person to talk to and you could see the light in her eyes when she talked about choir and singing. Luna also said “I think I’ve always had a more creative side as well, and being able to sing has always been a way I express myself.” It was really nice to know that Luna was very excited and happy about this award because it is a big accomplishment to be recognized and picked by your performing arts teacher.
Regyn Coolbaugh has appeared previously in the Paw Post being very involved in theater and school events, she has now been picked alongside Luna as a performing arts student being in choir at Palisade High school. She told a little bit of her story, “I’ve been interested in singing since I was in elementary school, specifically what made me join choir at Palisade was because my older brother actually did it. I was already passionate about singing and it just felt like a perfect fit.” Coolbaugh also added on, “I’m a member of choral counsel, and it’s something that is really important to me because it makes me feel like I’m making an act of change.” Lastly, she was very happy and thrilled about receiving this reward because of how much choir means to her. It felt really good being able to talk to these wonderful girls and about their love for their performing arts. It is amazing that students can come to Palisade High School and find their place with the wide variety of clubs and organizations that we have.
