Junior Kate Fricke is Student of the Week, nominated by Palisade’s girls varsity soccer coach, Raul De Villegas Decker. Fricke is one of three captains on the soccer team, while balancing her International Baccalaureate (IB) courses and passion for photography.
Decker explains, “She scored two goals against Grand Junction High School on May 1st. We were down by 2 goals during our last league game. Kate’s perseverance and commitment to the team paid off. Her two goals helped us earn the tie, but more importantly earned us a spot in the State playoffs for the 3rd year in a row.” Fricke has been playing soccer rigorously since the age of three, immersing herself in Fire FC’s competitive program. Soccer is a huge part of Fricke’s life, teaching her about collaboration and drive.
Aside from Fricke’s athletic drive, her academic drive is even more impressive. The IB program is demanding and constructed for only the best students. “I am a really hard worker and hold myself to a high standard that I try really hard to uphold, especially in school. I want to do well and succeed to my best ability,” reflects Fricke. There are few choices in the IB Program, but Fricke certainly chose the most challenging ones like Biology and Calculus.
Student of the Week is an important title to attain at Palisade High School. It is assigned to well rounded students, like Fricke. “This is an achievement, especially since I’ve worked hard in school this year,” says Fricke.
Congratulations to Kate Fricke for winning Student of the Week! Your efforts in athletics and academics do not go unnoticed.
