This past Friday, January 24th, our Palisade Boys Basketball team took on the Fruita Wildcats on their home court. Going into the game, our Bulldogs knew this would be a tough competitor, with Fruita’s record so far this season being 12-4. Nonetheless, the Bulldogs went into the game with determination. The game ended with a Palisade loss, with a final score of 26-44.
Junior Hunter Howard plays as shooting guard on the Varsity team, repping number one. Howard has been playing basketball since second grade, and has been a Varsity starter all three years of his high school career. After reviewing the game, Howard explained, “The high of the game was definitely holding Fruita to a 44 which is their second lowest score so far this season.” Howard then begins to state where he thought the Bulldogs began to falter, stating, “I think as the game went on we slowly started to understand their press, but we couldn’t hit a shot which was probably our biggest low. Lots of turnovers but I think going into the next one we understand what we need to change.”
Our Bulldogs have been putting up a strong fight this year, with a few major changes to the team. Howard explains, “I think so far with the new coaching system we’ve adapted to it well. I think we’ve slowly had some tough games in our new Southwestern League competition so I think with that adjustment as we get to play each team again I think we’ll start making bigger strides.”
Even on Fruita’s homecourt, our Palisade Bulldogs came to support their team, rocking a Hawaiian theme to rival Fruita’s Ski Bums. This was one of the biggest away-game student sections we’ve seen here at Palisade in a while, showing the spirit and support our Dogs show their team.
Good luck with the rest of your season Bulldogs, and make sure to pack the stands to continue to support the team. Go Bulldogs!
