Wrestling regionals are among us. It is that time of the year where we get to see who is going to be competing at state. For our Palisade wrestlers, it was no surprise that some of our boys and girls wrestlers qualified for state. For our girls wrestling team called the Phoenix, three of our own Palisade girls qualified for state: Violet Gray (130), Anaiah Guajardo (110) and Laylah Casto (145). Violet and Anaiah both were regional champions winning their brackets. Laylah placed third in her bracket. The amazing effort these girls put in paid off and got themselves a trip to state.
We had six gentlemen that qualified for state for the boys team: Teagan Young, Kadin Mulford, Eli Bency, Titus Steele, Tobyn Trottier and Julian Tautua’a. Young placed second at (106), Mulford placed third at (120), Bency placed third at (144), Steele placed second at (190), Trottier placed fourth at (215) and Tautua’a placed fourth (285). The boys wrestling team had a new coach this season, Caleb Brown. Coach Brown is also a new Staff member here at Palisade High School. The boys have shown their dominance over the whole season winning many meets they have participated in. We have been able to interview all the athletes who have qualified for state.
After asking them how the season went, Violet said, “It was good. The best thing I accomplished was getting first place at regionals.” Senior Titus said, “I really enjoyed this season. We did well individually and we did well as a team. I love throwing people around.” We send off the wrestlers to Denver in Ball Arena and we wish them the best of luck at competing in state.
