This summer’s productions brought the theaters back to life. With giant movies that hit the box office including Barbie and Oppenheimer, movie theaters finally felt like how they did before COVID: fun, energetic, warm, welcoming, and like a family. Full of the fresh smell of popcorn, the revival of theaters was beyond my belief.
“Barbieheimer” was a worldwide trend that helped bring people back to the movies. These two movies came out in mid-June and are still in the theaters currently. Other movie productions to hit the theaters this summer that I was able to catch included the horror film from A24 Talk to Me, the re-issue phenomenon Coraline, the final chapter to the action franchise Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, the second installment to Marvel’s beloved Spiderman story Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, another horror flick The Boogeyman, Nike’s partnership with Micheal Jordan showcased in Air, and Marvel’s last film in the beloved sequence about the world’s favorite outcasts Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3. The movies finally felt real again this summer and each watch I got to experience was worth the wait. My personal ratings of all the new movies I watched over this summer are listed below ranging from 1 to 5 stars. 2023 had a summer full of movies that didn’t disappoint and brought the movie theaters back to life.
