On December 6th and 7th here at Palisade High School, Palisade’s Speech and Debate team competed in their fourth tournament this season and had people place in the top six in several events, including duo interpretation, impromptu, big questions 2v2, and many others.
The events started around 4:30 P.M. and lasted until 10:30 P.M. on Friday. They began at 8:00 A.M. and finished at 7:00 P.M., along with nutcrackers for prizes and an ugly sweater contest. Alivia Nicodemus, a Palisade Freshman speaks of the experience, “It went well, we had a lot of people coming, there’s a ton of different schools and I’d say Palisade did really well. … It was very fun, like most speech and debate tournaments it was tiring, but I had a great time and I felt like it was a very fun and educational atmosphere”. It was the winter tournament, so there was a Nutcracker theme this year, as Nicodemus comments on, “we handed out nutcrackers for prizes, and we also had an ugly sweater contest”. In duo interpretation, Beau Roberts and Braewyn Brown from Palisade scored sixth. In impromptu, Mila Stepan got first, Ava Pearson got second, and Beckett Carlton got third. In big questions 2v2, Beckett Carlton and Gabrielle Spriggs got third, Solomon Helms got fourth, and Evelyn Forte and Lauren Spriggs got sixth. In Congress, Evelyn Forte got third, and Piper Wesolowski got sixth. In public forum debate, Evelyn Forte and Lauren Spriggs got sixth. In international extemporaneous, Gabrielle Spriggs got first, Beckett Carlton got second, and Beau Roberts got fourth. In Lincoln Douglass debate, Gabrielle Spriggs got third. In Original Oratory, Ava Pearson got fourth. Congratulations Speech and Debate!
