Last Saturday, March 2nd, our Palisade baseball team scrimmaged each other in intramurals to prepare for this season. The boys had tryouts the previous week. “Tryouts were good, we had a pretty young team, a lot of freshmen came out (20-23), but they’ve all stepped up pretty well,” says Sophomore Dylon Larson. The scrimmages on Saturday were supposed to be from 10-1 and 1-3. The second one got canceled due to running out of pitchers. “The scrimmage went pretty well, we had a lot of competition, a lot of guys really competing hard for a spot,” says Larson. Although they lost some crucial players including Brett Rozman, Ryker Harsha, and Josh Zotto, the boys still have lots of returning varsity players. Senior Kayden Dowdy, Junior Easton Embrey, and Sophomore’s Hunter Howard, Dylon Larson, Kian Kinslow, and Will Seriani are all key returning players. There are three Seniors this year, six Juniors, eight Sophomores, and one Freshman on the team. “I’m really excited for it, we have a good group of boys, we are really young but I think we have a chance to make a long run in the playoffs,” says Embrey. Their record last year was 18-7, and they had won league carrying a 12-0 league record. At home, they held a 14-3 record. This season, the boys’ first game is Thursday, March 3rd against Prairie View at 2pm. The boys have 16 home games this year. “Toward the beginning, I was pretty nervous because most of our team is really young, but as of right now we’re looking a lot sharper than I thought we were and I think we’re going to do really good this year,” says Larson on behalf of the upcoming season. The boys will join six other teams in the 4A Western Slope League this year including Battle Mountain, Eagle Valley, Glenwood Springs, Rifle, Steamboat Springs, and Summit. Good luck this season boys!!
