As the students, admin, and teachers jump back into school, our counselor’s office has been going above and beyond to guarantee everything is going smoothly. The hard-working counselors come back to school on July 18th. This is before any of the teachers have come back,
High school counselors are crucial in guiding and supporting students throughout their academic journey. They are often greeted by excited colleagues and administrators who appreciate their expertise and unwavering commitment to the well-being of students. The first day is filled with planning sessions, meetings, and catching up on any changes or updates during summer break. High school counselors also take this opportunity to reconnect with students, establishing a relationship and trust, essential for effective counseling relationships.
In an interview with Mrs. Ventling, a school counselor for student’s last names G-N, stated, “At the beginning of the year it’s a lot of paperwork before school starts. So in that time, we are looking at transcripts because in the spring the grades get put on the transcripts but then we have to adjust if students don’t pass classes we need to make schedule changes. We start with our seniors because we want to make sure they have everything they need for graduation. Then juniors, sophomores, and freshmen.” Evelyn Thackberry, a counseling secretary added to what Mrs. Ventling said by saying, “It hasn’t been too stressful in these first couple of days because maybe when you were about in fifth grade all this stuff you see us putting into the computer was on paper. It was just chaotic so the computer takes the stress off things.”
Overall, the return of high school counselors is an eagerly anticipated event as it signifies renewed support and guidance for students who rely on these professionals during their educational journey.

Hello Palisade High School students, my name is Angela and I am a junior here at Palisade. I joined the newspaper class because everyone here resembles a family. This is my second year in the Palisade Paw Post. I moved to Grand Junction three years ago from Arizona. I love traveling and have been to many places and I’ve got the chance to experience different cultures. One of the best places I have visited is Seattle Washington. I am really excited to get to know all the new team members at the Paw Post this year.
