At a sneaker conference in Philadelphia over the weekend, former President Donald Trump unveiled his latest pitch; and let’s just say it definitely got him on the front pages. Trump went back to his roots as a businessman and debuted a line of eye-catching high top golden sneakers rocking the American flag and a T on the side. Trump is calling them the “Never Surrender High-Top Sneakers,” selling them online for $399 a pair. “This is something I’ve been talking about for 12 years, 13 years, and I think it’s going to be a big success,” Trump said. Palisade student and Freshman, Tilly Stephens-Marner stated, “I’m not big on politics or anything, but you have to admit this is so out of the ordinary. But if a candidate were to come out with a sneaker line it would be Trump. Yeah it’s surprising, but I feel like people should’ve seen something along this line coming.” Trump is running for the Republican nomination for President this year, this was a good tactic in order to get seen, but will it be enough? Something people are questioning is the announcement brought up one day after a New York judge ordered Trump and the Trump Organization to pay over $355 million as part of a civil fraud case. Some are coming to the conclusion that the sneaker line is just an attempt to cover up his mistakes and get the wrong kind of spotlight off of him. Politics and fashion usually never mix so the product launch was very unusual. Resale prices are up to $900 and they were sold out the same minute they went up on the website. This launch surprised many.
