This week’s female Athlete of the Week brought to you by Palisade Dino Mart is Junior Delaney Wright. Delaney is having a great season so far, she is the starting forward for the 12-6 girls basketball team. She has been playing basketball all three years of high school, and volleyball her first two years. Both of these sports started in middle school. Delaney expresses what got her started into sports, “both my sisters played sports” she says. Delaney has been having a great basketball season, she shares that “it’s definitely better than we were last year, with new systems”. Delaney is a huge contributor to the girls team, she brings height, rebounding, and is a great teammate. Delaney states “playing with my teammates and having fun with them” as her favorite part of basketball. Outside of basketball and school, Delaney loves to read and bake. When asked about her biggest inspiration Delaney said “A lot of my teammates inspire me because they always give their all.” One of Delaney’s greatest accomplishments was working her way up to varsity throughout high school and becoming a starter. Delaney’s advice for an incoming freshman would be to “enjoy your teammates and enjoy the game.” She talks about how there may be times when you don’t enjoy it, but looking back, you will have some of the greatest memories. Delaney is also involved in the IB program. Between basketball and IB, Delaney says it’s important to just stay on task and talk to your teachers to manage it all. Being a varsity starter and in IB, Delaney has a couple huge commitments. She continues to make a huge difference on the court, and is greatly appreciated by her teammates.
